Villa Medicis-French Academy in Rome
protoCAMPO is an open architecture composed of a timber structure (agora) on which seats an inflatable dome (cuppola). ProtoCAMPO combines two archetypes of the Roman city to create a place of gathering, events, mediation and meditation.
protoCAMPO was co-designed and built with the Lycée Haroun Tazieff of Saint Paul les Dax, the teachers and 44 high school students as well as the support of partner companies within the framework of the RESIDENCE PRO project. The aim of the project is to promote the work and studies in professionals sectors. protoCAMPO welcomed from May 8th to 12th 300 high school students from the professional sector in joinery and carpentry.
protoCAMPO; is a built manifesto for a proto-architecture which is built up on the following principles: timber prefabrication with material sourcing and traceability, low-tech and high-tech to highlight traditional know-how and technological innovations, assembly and disassembly process to foster recycling and flexibility.
protoCAMPO explores the idea of a more mobile architecture, flexible in its uses with a positive social and environmental impact: self-sufficiency, reversibility of uses over time, ecological materials which makes it possible to imagine a less rigid and more open architecture.
